I have a notebook-sized pouch that has things I’ll need at my seat. It’s in my carryon until the boarding area, where I pull it out to toss on my seat as I stow my bag (either that or I have a backpack that fits under seat). I’ve never fumbled through my bags to get stuff after boarding.
I do the same thing - power charger, iPad, headphones, back up headphones, glass for my cocktail, True Lime for my cocktail, etc. I just pull it out of my laptop backpack bag right before I put the laptop bag in the overhead (when in row 1). No more getting back up to get an item I've forgotten during or after boarding / getting in other people's way... I nearly always select a window seat and the bag is small enough to slide down between the arm rest and the interior wall.
