The Chase Sapphire products are appealing to folks buying domestic tickets, which are probably most Americans. If you have 25,000 UR points and a CSR, you can buy a ticket up to $375, which will probably get you further than 25,000 miles on AA/UA/DL.
However, there are a lot of situations where a roundtrip business class ticket from the US to Europe costs $7,000 in cash and 115,000 AAdvantage miles. I wish there were a credit card program that airlines could use to dump excess inventory like that, where the price is only available with points and you get a huge outsized redemption.
