It could be an inventory mismatch (quote the cash price in one fare class and the points price in another). It looks like there are some decent "Recommended Fares" and "Insider Fares" on AA in the DEN-JFK market.
It’s gone because I did take that last bit of O inventory. It’s priced as two separate fare basis codes for DEN-DFW and DFW-JFK, both in O inventory though. I couldn’t find a price lower than $188 on aa.com.
I called amex customer service after booking and got my points back with just a $88.61 credit card charge instead!
