What happens if the phone is damaged and you cannot go through the erase/transfer process on the old device? With a physical nano sim you just pop it out and insert in the new phone. With an eSIM, it involves contacting the carrier to transfer from one IMEI to another, which could be a hassle if abroad in a far-flung location.

Anyone know how you handle transfering a primary eSIM to a new device if the original device is destroyed or lost/stolen?

Until I find out more, I will stick to the physical SIM for primary. I do use eSIMs for cellular data overseas, via Airalo--a fantastic service!
The first thought that comes to mind is just go to your carrier store or call in and ask for a new sim card with that number. Not really a big deal. You could also probably transfer it to another device using your desktop account manager. You have a much safer device with an esim in that it cannot be disabled by taking your sim out and replacing it if your phone is lost or stolen. Any time it gets turned on, you can track it.
