My suspicion is that this may be due to COVID-19 check in procedures that the Sky Club agents are not trained to do. It's still kind of pathetic they send you landside to do this instead of having a KLM transfer desk or training DL staff to do it.

The KL gate agents (who are actually Delta employees) may have been able to print your boarding pass, which would have saved you from having to clear TSA again.
