being stuck in HEL (ha!) transit for 24 hr sounds miserable, possibly no open lounge plus iirc LAX flights are not even daily so you'd have route via ord or nyc..

Ba may have 788 to moscow vs regional jet of ay subsidiary, you ll have access to fancy lhr lounge as ow emerald

Perhaps doing hel in the other direction is more practical.
Hi, Azepine00, good point. I am checking www.gov.uk now and here is the policy on "transit without a visa". Could you help me understand the second bullet point? For example, if I arrive in the UK on Oct 1 and depart on Oct 1, it's OK. Or if I arrive in the UK on Oct 1 but depart before midnight on Oct 2, it's also OK. Am I correct?

Transiting without a visa

You might be eligible for ‘transit without visa’ if:
  • you arrive and depart by air
  • have a confirmed onward flight that leaves on the day you arrive or before midnight on the day after you arrive
  • have the right documents for your destination (eg a visa for that country)
