This is NOT allowed.

However it is not always enforced. Rather than rely on a phone App, I would simply list your wife as the second guest on the reservation and say that she will be checking in before you.

As long as everybody else staying in the room is aware that they are supposed to be you - and/or the hotel doesn't really care - then you should be fine.

But if it goes badly wrong because somebody working at the hotel gets upset, your account is at risk of closure.
