AU currently restricts entry to AU citizens, AU permanent residents and limited others. Will be a long time before AU is open for general travel.
Currently 14 days state organised hotel quarantine is required on AU entry at your own cost (~AU$3000)
QF and other airlines are taking bookings from 17th Dec 2021, but a chance will not fly. 17th Dec is the date when current federal restrictions end, but they get extended by 3 months every 3 months. The states have separate restrictions that apply when you walk out of an international airport.
AA have recently stopped flying LAX-SYD. UA & DL are flying, but limited to ~10 - 15 - 20 pax per flight (or nil for some flights).

The AA flights LAX-SYD are showing as operating again starting in late October. No availability though.
