Yea, I wouldn't stress about it yet. Additionally weren't pretty much all tickets issued in early 2020 extended to be valid until end of 2021?

As Antarius mentioned above I would just give AA a call tomorrow, forget everything the Twitter rep said, and start over. "Hi, I recently cancelled an award ticket and wanted to check on getting the miles redeposited..." Again don't even mention anything about the Twitter conversation.
