For whatever reason the UK plus seem to fit in more securely, and then I just plug my US plug into the UK->US adapter and all is well.
In general, they work, but (ain't there always) this often doesn't work with wall warts, especially the computer-sized ones. You need either the light ones (eg, not the Apple ones, but the ones that came with Android phones) or the brick with cord ones. Anything else will often fall out. The UK trick is usually fine unless you get some moderate turbulence.
