Someone suggested using one of the US to UK power adapters, and I've kept one in my bag and used it for these sloppy connections - assuming you are plugging into an outlet that is a "world" one.

For whatever reason the UK plus seem to fit in more securely, and then I just plug my US plug into the UK->US adapter and all is well.
