Except people who stay in countries for long periods of time, need to have accurate, legible stamps. For example Mexico is 180 days, you then have to leave Mexico and come back. EU is 3 months, one has to leave the EU and go to a non-EU country and then go back. Having the correct stamps proves that one isn't breaking the law, in case the entry was not recorded accurately or at all. It also is a hard reminder for people who forget dates easily. Most of this applies to people who have homes abroad.
Exactly. This is very important even when catching trains between European countries. Some countries require registration after certain amount of days. So, you can show on the train when you arrived, etc.
