I don’t understand why someone visiting Shanghai Disneyland would stay at the Park Hyatt 30 KM away lol. I don’t think visiting Shanghai Disney is a credible reason to stay at the PH. Even if you cab there, we are talking about a daily commute time of 2 hours - 3 hours (especially annoying since cabs drop you off in the middle of nowhere for Shanghai Disneyland). That just does not seem like a good idea to me lol.
Lujiazui is fine for what it is but it’s hardly the part of Shanghai that most leisure travelers want to visit IMO. IFC, Babaiban (and the newish L1 mall), and Flair are OK but the PH is not convenient to any of them.
Given the other comments in this thread, I think it’s generally accepted that Hyatt would benefit from new Shanghai hotels with better locations. Outside of the Andaz Xintiandi (which someone else mentioned), the locations are far from ideal. To get from the HOB to the Peninsula, you need to cross the Waibaidu bridge. At that point, most people are just going to jail a didi hence my comment on walkability.
Also, the location for the Peninsula is good but hardly a contender for the best location in Shanghai. I agree there is no perfect location for Shanghai (which is true for any city but especially true for Shanghai) but there are obviously areas that are more desirable. Outside of the Andaz, Hyatt just doesn’t seem to have decent hotels in the most desirable locations.
I haven’t been keeping up with the club scene in Shanghai these days (heard ASL closed, guessing Myst is still dead?) but that also plays a big role in location desirability too IMO
