Can't really discuss alternatives without knowing what time OP's AS flight is scheduled to depart. The AS schedule is currently highly variable; right now, the sole AS departure is at 6:15 pm and the last AA flight is at 7:20 pm, which would be very tight since the ticket would have to be pushed over to AA (and since, by definition, OP would be arriving too late for the 6:15).

I fly this route pretty much every week.
