Complex question about a US citizen, minor traveling from UK to US
A neighborhood friend has a complex situation that she’s looking for advice so I thought I would post here and see if this is the right form, and if not if there is a form or she could get some information. I have suggested she talk with an attorney or other expert but she’s hesitant to do that and I’m not sure why. My friend son is a minor, I believe he’s 16, living in the UK with his dad. He has a UK passport as a dual national US and UK citizen. However he does not have a US passport. My understanding is that as a US citizen he would need a US passport to enter the country here, but it looks like it’s almost impossible to start that process from the UK. Dad is willing to do what he needs to do and it’s not opposing his sons visit.
I’ve looked at a bunch of sites for her as she and it’s still very confusing of what she would need to do to have her son come visit. If anyone can steer me in the right direction for more advice or suggest the kind of person she should talk to to help sort this out it would be much appreciated. Thanks..
