I know this is very, very old news, but I never knew what the deal was with the MD-11. I seem to recall that AA purchased some MD-11s when they first came out, but they promptly sold them (to FedEx, IIRC). Was it a dud? I always loved the AA DC-10s, and tried to choose them over the 762s on transcons whenever possible. I know that some airlines still fly them, but they never caught on like the 767, 777 or Airbus jets. What's the deal?
