Solid advice which aligns with AS’ stance. Earlier this year I was supposed to fly DCA > DFW > MIA > SAV on AA. When DCA > DFW ended up getting cancelled, I was reaccommodated on the DCA > SAV nonstop. I contacted Customer Care requesting ORC on my original AA itinerary, but was denied stating in part:

The policy you referenced in your email only applies when you have been rerouted on another carrier. Since the carrier remained the same, the flights you actually traveled on are the flights you will receive credit for.
So because I was rerouted on the same carrier (AA in this case) I was not entitled to ORC. Was a real bummer since I was on a paid F ticket and would have racked up a lot of EQMs and RDMs. Oh well.
