I've had dinner twice at TOWN, the lobby restaurant at the Hotel Kansas City. Both were excellent meals. We have a family house in the Plaza area of KC, so I have not yet stayed overnight at the hotel, but it is well-located and a beautiful re-use of the old Kansas City Club building, which sat mostly vacant since the 1990s.

The free streetcar, as someone mentioned above, stops a block away at 12th and Main (in front of the One Kansas City Place office building -- near the Bank of America ATM). It now takes you to Union Station (23d aka Pershing and Main) (and connected by skywalks to Crown Center and the old-school Halls department store, another must visit). Soon, the Phase 2 extension will be complete, and the streetcar will travel all the way to the Plaza (47th aka Cleaver and Main) and the University of Missouri Kansas City just beyond (52d and Oak).
