05:10 this morning and the whole process took around 20-minutes. Fast Track appeared shut, but upon entering the normal lane the staff member spotted a CE mobile BP and pulled open the tensa barrier. I was glad not to have to navigate the excessive snaking of the other lane and there were around seven people already in the tray area. Staff were encouraging me to use a separate tray for each laptop removed from cases, which I didn't do, but they were friendly enough. Following previous posts I wondered about my bag of cables (which is always left in my bag) but left it in as an experiment. Tray collection area was mobbed with people waiting and getting re-dressed, four bags waiting for a secondary and mine was added to that queue. Interestingly the friendly and chatty inspector wasn't interested in the cable bag though, but instead a cufflink box fashioned from a shoe polish pot. I commented that it's been through scanners countless times previously without issue and he advised that an attentive x-ray operator would confuse the foam padding for actual shoe polish. Reassuring I guess for today's upcoming flight, but makes me wonder about next time it isn't spotted! Certainly glad I had Fast Track access though - the other queue appeared to have a sizeable wait and most of the scanners were out of service.
