I assume it's because he used points for the room rate, but I agree, it may be in his interest to cancel the points reservation and make a real one paying cash. However, sometimes this property can have reasonable point redemption rates vs. the cash rate. Using points also waives the $14.95 resort fee, but using the credit on the room rate greatly reduces the chance of eating and drinking your way to excess.....not saying it wouldn't be fun to try!!!
