FWIW, the seats that I selected are fine and I doubt I'd want to change them. But I've never seen this before, and it struck me as odd!
This always happens when I book through my corporate travel agent. I have no idea why, but am glad that I at least get that one opportunity.
If you want to change seats later, it's still possible by calling WestJet.
