ive done the overnight trip at IST a few times, but from the old airport. it was easy to get direct into the city with the metro, and if not that then the havas bus.

the city is also very night-friendly/accomodating, as there is vibrant nightlife around the Sishane stop on the modern/europe side. and if you want to admire the traditional sights you can do that at Sultanahmet (or save it for the peaceful early morning).

used to depart often from IST and the 3-hour-departure was never a threat. barring any covid related blocks, if you have the evisa and inclination, and dont need the sleep, i recommend it.
