What's got a lot of people upset is the non-Covid cases dying because the ICU is full of Covid cases that probably won't make it. There the benefit tips strongly towards the non-Covid cases but since the Covid cases are already in the ICU they get the treatment.
I think under a crisis standard of care, if someone with a better prognosis comes along resources are allocated to that person, even if the other person was there first. The AMA guidelines, at least, include a provision for that scenario.
