Skunkman offers very good advice. The more off the beaten path your destination, the more you need primary travel insurance with up to $1M in cover for evacuation to a hospital of your choice. I would prefer not even "near my home" as that might not offer the best care in a particular specialty where you might prefer to go to a major hospital like Mass Gen, Johns Hopkins, Cedars-Sinai, etc. While doing my research I found that almost all of the providers to Antarctica required primary insurance with a high emergency evacuation limit. I also agree with him on the cancel for any reason policies. I can't really imagine any uncovered reason I'd cancel. They cover all of the big stuff--illness or death of a close relative (or someone in your traveling party), your house burns down, compulsory military duty, etc.
