Stayed here recently:

Positives:

-Location is really practical. Right next to the main bus station and at the entrance of Venice. You can start your walking or boat tours of the city without any hassle. It is also fairly close to the main train station (Santa Lucia), however crossing the bridge over the grand canal to get to and from the train station can be problematic. (See negatives points below)

-Rates here are quite reasonable compared to other parts of Venice

-Modern hotel with walk-in showers and fridge in room. Mineral water replaced daily. Bathrooms are small but the smart layout does not make them uncomfortable.

- The hotel shape is asymmetrical so inner courtyard facing rooms still get plenty of natural sunshine.

-Breakfast only costs 10 euro per person per day. If you are platinum or higher you can use your daily credit to get it free. The hotel grants 10 euro instead of 10 dollars daily credit if you chose this option for your welcome gift instead of the points. You can also use the credit against dinner or bar drinks if you do not want breakfast.

-Lots of restaurants and even a public park nearby.

-There is a large COOP supermarket a 5 min walk away on the northern end of "Fondamenta Santa Chiara". Walk north (away from central venice) along the grand canal and go past all the vaporetto/boat and water taxi stops. Do not cross any bridges. Supermarket is in the very last building along the canal.

Negatives:

-No upgrade given despite being a titanium member. Claimed all bigger rooms were occupied. Website showed otherwise. Disappointing.

-Lowest level rooms are small. Not so small that is is unbearable like in Paris hotels, but if you are 2 people with 2 pieces of luggage you will feel a bit claustrophobic if you spend too much time in the room when not sleeping. Basic level rooms have no desk, just a round table with 1 chair. Bathrooms are small but the smart layout does not make them uncomfortable. Consider paying a bit more for a larger room if you want relaxing and resting time in the room.

-As this hotel is located next to the only small section of Venice where cars and buses and emergency vehicles with sirens can drive there is SOME noise from the street. Ask for an inner courtyard facing room if this is a concern. The hotel shape is asymmetrical so these "inner " rooms still get plenty of natural sunshine.

-During my stay there the bar and restaurant was run by just 1 waitress doing both the cooking and serving. She was doing her best, but it's not an ideal situation. At breakfast time there was more staff.

-To walk to or from the main train station (Santa Lucia), you will have to cross the modern arched bridge over the grand canal called "Ponte della Costituzione" (also called the "Calatrava Bridge" by locals). It has lots of steps and is really impractical and uncomfortable for pulling luggage despite it only being built in 2008. It is also VERY slippery when it's raining or snowing. The bridge is hated by local venetians both for being totally impractical and also for being ugly. Unfortunately, the only alternative is crossing the "Ponte degli Scalzi" which is less slippery but has just as many steps. Also, if you use this alternative route , you will have to cross another 2 bridges with steps before getting to the hotel.

-Do not pay extra for a "canal view room". It really is nothing special. Your view will be of a tiny canal with unremarkable buildings and almost zero boat traffic. Also, (at the moment) there is an ugly bridge made of metal scaffolding crossing the canal. It is not a romantic or even pleasant view.
