The IHG options at LAX are pretty grim, IMO. The Holiday Inn LAX is a little too close to the 405 and some sketchy areas for my taste; the HIX on Airport and Manchester is in a slightly better area, but it is pretty industrial.
El Monte is a lower-middle class neighborhood with decent, no-frills Mexican and close proximity to Chinese and Vietnamese in Rosemead/San Gabriel.
