I was in a similar situation for an award ticket over thanksgiving. Schedule change + Equip change, downgraded from PP to Econ+. Miles weren't refunded.

It's not clear to me if I booked a "saver" or "everyday" PP award, but I was curious if anyone has had success with asking to open up Saver Level Business Awards in this kind of situation? Or is that asking way too much of UA.
