Short version: I would pay the $159 now then redeem the miles later for your next flight.

If you buy 1,000 miles for $29.56 you're paying about 2.96 cents per mile then turning around and using them to get a benefit of about 1.18 cents per mile.

If you were to pay cash now then redeem your 10,000 earned miles for your second flight (and all the miles and cash pricing is the same) then you'd get a benefit of about 1.33 cents per mile.
