Hilton LAX. The good, the bad, and the ugly...

Had a four night stay at the Hilton LAX with Mrs. PGF recently and got to experience the 2 x $15 per day credit.

The good:
We arrived late at night and slept-in the next morning. It was nice to be able to apply the credit to lunch at The Bistro (however, more on that later...).

On the mornings that we did have breakfast it was in The Cafe. The quality of the omelettes and other breakfast items was quite good and the portions were reasonable.

The Bad:
The "real" breakfast items in The Cafe were pretty pricey:

I suppose that a cup of coffee and two pastries technically counts as a "continental" breakfast, but it feels excessive to charge $13.75 plus tax and tip for this. We would typically each order a $18.75 omelette and Mrs. PGF would order coffee (I'm not a coffee drinker). The total bill with tax and tip came to about $54, so net after the $30 credit was $24 per day.

The $30 credit appeared on our folio every day except the last (I was able to check the folio through the TV in our room). Because the last day credit didn't appear I was forced to wait in a 10 minute long line at the front desk to check out . The process of having the night audit apply the credit is a recipe for day-of-checkout aggravation.

The Ugly:
For lunch on our first day we got food from The Bistro. I had a "Reuben" sandwich which was horrible. Describing it as a Reuben is generous at best. It was basically a piece of cheese, plus a few pieces of packaged pressed processed lunch meat on a bland roll. Absolutely not worth the $17+ they charged. On top of that, it was noisy and the clerk at the counter insisted that I loudly call out my name and room number for the room charge. Probably 15 people could hear that info. Why not just print the bill and I'll fill in the info, sign it, and hand it back to you, just like I did every day in the Cafe. No yelling or sharing of room info required.
