I had a not totally different registration experience a few rentals ago. Hertz rented me a car with temporary, 30 day sticker. Being from out of state, I had not realized exactly what this was until I read it carefully. I returned the car on the 30th or 31st day, with some worry about what if I got stopped on the way to the airport? I find it pretty poor form on the part of Hertz without letting me know of the limits of their rental. But they don't give a rat's a$$ about what I think I'm sure.
i just had a one way rental from a local edition to airport. They had assigned a SUV and then last minute swap for another. Turns out the vehicle had out of state temp plates which expired >60 days ago. IMO they were passing the problem vehicle to another station instead of taking the vehicle out of inventory until permanent plates are arranged for and installed.
