Krakow Doubletree

Here for 10 nights on a paid stay as a Diamond. At 50usd per night, this continues to be a fabulous bargain.

My review from two years ago, about 10 posts up, remains essentially the same. Great reception, nice big clean room, and perhaps the best lounge in Europe.

Few covid things are apparent. Mostly mask use and they call everyday to ask if you want housekeeping.

Perhaps the biggest negative is the complete death of the mall next door. The McDonalds and the grocery store are now gone, leaving only the work out place open. The trouble is that now to get to the tram line beyond the mall, you have to go all the way to the other end of the mall to get into the mall, then all the way to the near side of the mall to access the bridge to the tram. Walking the entire length of the empty mall is creepy, especially at night. This makes the Doubletree now even more location challenged than before.. Perhaps, too challenged for tourist use. There is simply no “let’s go get dinner somewhere quick” without a long walk or taxi ride. The Radisson Blu or Holiday Inn are just so easy in comparison.

As before, the lounge really makes this place. Excellent dinner type food on offer. Chicken and potatoes, pork loin with dumplings and mushrooms, pastries with saurkraut and mushrooms, sour sausage soup..all just great. Lounge staff are fabulous. I take a beer from the fridge, another cold beer is put in its place. I take a beer glass, immediately another glass is put in its place. Friendly, chatty staff who are happy and outgoing.

Great, great hotel. I just wish it were not so isolated.
