I've been flying Southwest exclusively for the past 5 or 6 years, and during that time, I'd say about 90% of the flights I booked were changed by them. Perhaps it's because I usually book a good 4 months or so ahead of time, so there's more time for something to change on their end. But the last time they changed a flight on me was in June. They changed the flight only by about 15 minutes, but I was still able to completely change the flight for free. The only reason I was concerned now is that I've never booked a flight with them in the *hopes* that they changed it on me.
Unless I'm missing something you just have a trip set up to fly out one day and return the next. WN has no idea that you aren't currently in the city where the first flight originates
Right now I have O/W flights booked to FLL on 11/12, 11/14 and the flight I want on 11/26
I also have O/W flights from FLL on 11/18, 11/21 and the flight I want on 12/1
