Specific scenario - bought a very good-deal USA - Pakistan roundtrip tickets on qatar website business/R fare a couple of months ago for July 2021, and Qatar cancelled the flight, so I called and kept the ticket as open.

I want to fly again same route next year July 2022, basically just a date change, but don't want to pay what will be a much higher fare. I called once and the agent said that no penalty/waiver etc is only if I want to fly till May 2022 (not July), and there will be a fare difference according to the agent.

But isn't this incorrect if Qatar was the one who cancelled the flight and this was an involuntary change? As long as I find and get rebooked on R fare is this a case of hangup call again?
The agent is correct as the EOC policy only applies to travel that is completed by 31 May 2022.
