I agree with the others, that it is very location-dependent. I have gotten free Premium upgrades at DEN, SNA, PDX, TUS, MCI, LGB, and PHX, but never at ATL, anywhere in FL or HI, NYC, any of the DC area airports, SLC, LAX, etc.
