You can definitely can make it and probably still get overhead space BUT, if you take the slightest delay on your first flight you are going to miss the connection. SEA has lots of delays with arriving flights not being able to get into a gate.

This. A delay would be my biggest concern. I flew LAX-SEA last month and there was some sort of ATC delay or hold due to weather along the LAX departure routes. There were multiple later flights for me to continue on from SEA-ANC so I wasn't super worried. We made our booked connecting flight but it was close -- I'm familiar with SEA and the terminal trains, we did the speed walk, and arrived during boarding of the C group.
So do the overnight connection via PDX to be safe then? Looks like the earliest flight on Alaska to Boston from Seattle the following morning gets me in way later than works for my schedule. Whereas the flight from Portland with the overnight connection gets me in a little later than I'd like but not unworkably so.
That or do the earlier flight to SEA, also just in the name of playing it safe.
