Minimum realistic connection time at SEA?

I'm looking at an LAX-BOS flight that involves a stop in SEA. SEA-BOS has a listed departure time of 3:47 PM. My options are to arrive at SEA at either 11:32 AM or 2:51 PM. Googling suggests that the minimum okay connection time at SEA for a domestic connection is 45 minutes, but if I'm planning on just doing carry-ons am I realistically getting overhead space by taking the 2:51 arrival, given the scheduled arrival is 10 minutes before boarding will start on the flight to Boston? I think the only other realistic option is to go PDX and spend the night for a 7 AM departure the next morning. I'd be doing a night in a hotel by BOS if I do the LAX-SEA-BOS flight so I'm indifferent on where I do the night in a hotel, it just would be nice to be able to get driving to my ultimate destination in Vermont earlier in the day from Boston if the Seattle routing makes sense.
