Very true, what a sad and unprofessional way of trying to get a passengers assigned seat. Not creative at all. I had it once on an award flight that they really wanted my seat for a VIP they were trying to please. However, the purser, came to me and put it sraight forward without making up some crappy excuses/lies. He offered me a one class upgrade for a roundtrip flight on LH to be used either from Y to C or C to F. Not too shaby. Of course I said I don't really care for the upgrade, but if it would make their life easier I would move. I got the upgrade voucher from a GA when arriving in FRA and had a very pleasant flight in F with great, great service. However, this was back in 1999. The guy who got my seat looked liked some big corporate customer (not some celeb as to be expected when flying out of LAX) as even the captain stopped by to chat with him.

BTW, as some others have already mentioned, it really get's on my nerves when I observe that LH employees on private trips (on 10% stand by fares) are put into premium cabins together with full fare pax's (and award flyers), if very good LH customers and LH status pax are left in their assigned class. Now don't get me wrong, I don't expect to bumped up for free as I think that if one wants to fly C or F he/she can always pay for it be it with $$$ or miles. However, especially in F I think this practice is totally out of place and should be stopped though it often happens. I never saw things like this happening on SQ who rather leave F almost empty with only a few seats taken before putting staff there (well maybe except captains). Just an opinion though.

Cheers ...
