we were on midway in late june this year....our cruise had a port call there....the access is limited to 400 people on shore & so they ran a tender operation all day to take care of the ~ 600 pax.....however, i don't know what the effect on aa flights will be, but, because they operate 2 engine aircraft, it will probably affect some flights & result in more fuel use to fly further north in order to be in the allowable range to emergency runways...

perhaps the a/l's will lobby to keep it open, or they could fund the operation.

the nrt runs would be the only ones [ & the new kix service] ...

if it costs 3mm / yr to keep it open & there are 8 rt's / day [guess], then it would cost about $500 each way to keep it open... 3mm/12 = $250k/ mo /[8x30] = about $ 1k. if only aa was involved. surely other a/l's would be affected... so, if they all pitched in, are we talking about less than $100 / segment? plus, of course, some amount of administrative cost.
