I got the agent to refund the extra $49 they charged me for an Economy Plus seat on one outbound flight. But I still have to pay an additional $35 outbound checked bag fee that the bundle should have covered. I’m 1 for 2 in getting United to honor their offer. No more bundles for me.
typically, the packages are sold
per direction - in fact, I’ve never personally seen the bundles apply for a round trip. I’d guess you missed the part where it showed which part of the itinerary it’s for. I think on the main website, it shows the direction on the left (ie, SJC-OKC), then let’s you select a bundle on the right, then repeats it for the return underneath. On the app, it is absolutely clear - see screenshots below from a dummy booking I just tried for November on your route. You have to check for which direction after selecting a bundle, and then also shows the price for each.
also, note the packages aren’t always a deal -
definitet look at the package price vs. buying separately to determine which is cheaper. I wouldn’t exactly call selling packages for more than the individual components ethical, and not defending UAs choice to do it - they shouldn’t- however, like everything in life, it’s buyer beware and always ideal to double check the prices both ways to see what works best. It’s likely an algorithm that’s set up that doesn’t check against the current price of the seats. On the dummy itinerary I set up with the connection via DEN, the regular E+ seats (ie, not bulkhead, exit or limited recline) were $59 and $34 on each segment, making the $98 price for the E+/bag bundle worth it. In your case, it apparently wasn’t.
