I’ve done it before, would go into the counter or office and say I need the rental charged on a different card. Never had a problem with them even questioning where the vehicle is - this is a problem I guess, I could just show up and the car can be somewhere else. But nonetheless, if I drop the vehicle and there is no instant return available, I go to the counter and show the photo of the gauges and vehicle parked in the garage.
This will likely what I'll do if possible in the future, but it's not always going to be an option for people that are not in one of the G/5S/PC groups. The non-status line to speak to someone at the counter at this location might be 50+ people deep, and if you've got a flight to catch that's not going to work.
