Hard to say how many, but Singapore bus's public API does differenciate between single and double decker (as well as how many seats). Some websites do show this, some may not.

The bus driver has a video feed of the stairs and they should check it before leaving stop (but ymmv). Would suggest one parent to go down 1-2 stops beforehand. First parent may ask driver to wait a little after stopping while the other parent goes down/up the stairs

or just ride until it reaches depot. 1-2 hours each way?
