The problem right now is Apple is making value judgments for its customers. I am a former ACLU attorney. I am no fan of stalking, but making a value judgment that people aren’t entitled to use GPS tracking to locate their stolen property because it could be used by a stalker is troubling. By that reasoning, I shouldn’t be able to put LoJack on my car for the same reason. Equally as troubling my Ford Infotainment system alerts people that their location is being tracked and press this button to disable it. I always thought that one benefit of Ford Sync was that it gave you a free theft tracker.
This. OT, but I was really disappointed to see Apple basically trash its whole "privacy" facade by adding the photo hash scanning on everyone's iPhone pictures. Oh sure, they did it in the name of "saving the children", but the reality is, now that governments know Apple has backdoored its own devices, it's only a matter of time before it's abused. Apparently Apple is also allowing <30 pieces of child porn before they sound the alarm...what?!. They're also being matched against known CSAM hashes, so it is useless for new pictures...and they were nice enough to provide these deets in advance so the pedos can just go further underground. Slow clap Apple.
