Beautiful hotel in the heart of Strasbourg, figured it deserves its own thread.
We really enjoyed this place. Perfect location in the center of the city, directly next to Place Kleber and Galeries Lafayette, minutes from the major sights. Classic hotel in Art Deco design, beautifully restored with lots of lovely little touches, like the artwork on the wall or displays of the famous guests who stayed here over the centuries.
We booked a Privilege Room (which was cheapest to BRG) and received an upgrade to a Privilege Triple on the 5th floor. Basically a large room/small junior suite (350sqft), well-appointed, with a cute little balcony (which has to be unlocked by staff "for safety"), and a large bathroom. Clarins toiletries in wall-mounted dispensers. Small seating area and a fold-out couch. Stocked Minibar plus Nespresso machine/water kettle/tea/etc, and a bottle of wine with welcome note waiting for us. Ideal room for our needs -- well laid out and with plenty of space to maneuver around.
Staff was pleasant, but not particularly attentive. At check-in, no mention of status, upgrade, or breakfast. For the latter, we just showed up in the morning, and our name was on the list. The restaurant design is stunning, and the buffet excellent. High quality meats and cheeses, delicious baked goods, regional dairy products, tasty premium cuts of fruit (not just the "fruit salad" garbage so often found in France). Staff will come by and take orders for egg dishes, pancakes, French toast -- unfortunately, on the first day, we waited for 40 minutes and then found out that our order had been forgotten. When the egg stuff does show up, though, it's very tasty. After some 20 post-Covid stays at Bonvoy/Hyatt properties in Europe, we'd probably rank this breakfast #1.
We arrived by train and streetcar -- the hotel is just 3 stops from the Central Station, on lines A or D. Driving in central Strasbourg is restricted, and parking expensive, but the hotel did proactively send directions by email.
Overall, an excellent stay. Strasbourg also has a new aloft and voco (IHG), which we had initially booked, but we found the Maison Rouge well worth the slightly higher rate.
