I am scheduled to fly from ORD to MCO on UA on 8/14/2021 and I received the "...you have options" e-mail notification. I am flying in Basic Economy and the "options" are:
A travel waiver is in effect for this trip.
We're waiving change fees when you rebook your travel.
If you decide to make a change to your reservation, change fees and any difference in ticket price will be waived if the change you make follows these guidelines:
- Your new travel date is between 8/11/2021 12:00:00 AM and 8/24/2021 12:00:00 AM
- Your origin and destination airports remain the same
- Your new ticket is in the same cabin as the original ticket
- Your new flight is operated by United or United Express
In order for this travel waiver to be applied:
- Changes must be made by 8/3/2022. To change your flight before this date, select Change flight.
- If you are not ready to change your flight by 8/3/2022, you can instead cancel your flight and receive a credit to rebook later. Select "Cancel options" to learn more.
At this point, I am not interested in traveling as my return date is on Monday, 8/16, and I suspect that there are going to be lingering effects from the tropical storm on schedules. My question is whether I should wait to see if the flight gets cancelled as I am assuming that if it does, I am due a refund (not a future flight credit). Should I wait until the last possible moment in order to determine if the flight gets cancelled? If the flight does not get cancelled, can I just cancel my reservation on line just before the flight is scheduled to depart and get the future flight credit? I am trying to avoid the future flight credit as it will entail "change fees" if I use it after 8/24/2021.
We get worse storms on a daily basis in the afternoons than what Fred is going to bring to Orlando. I wouldn’t be too concerned.
