I had this problem all the time before covid. I had to call the hotels directly and they almost always said no problem w bringing in a kid. My problem is I did an Asia, Africa to Middle East back to Asia trip and had to keep calling hotels in advance to see their policies
To add to this, if I'm going to go "off-script" I'd rather have a written confirmation. For example I've gotten guarantees of upgrades by the phone only to get shrugs from the front desk upon check-in. (looking at you JWM KL)

I don't think this is good advice. There's the fact that you'd be deceptive obviously. If I'm visiting the lounge or the kid's club at a resort property there's no way I can obfuscate the size of my company. The staff might very likely never connect this to whatever is on my booking I'd never wat to take such a risk. When travelling as a family I want to be 100% sure everything is handled and there's no possibility of surprises.
