SLC and MSP are both great airports: unless you have a tight connection. 30 min in SLC is pushing it depending upon which gates you arrive and depart from. SLC is a long terminal. My suggestion would be to sit as close to the front of the arriving flight as possible, buying you a few minutes deplaning. As someone said above: i would avoid since i don't like that level of stress/uncertainty as i land and am watching my clock, doing mental math of the timing, etc.
