Unfortunately, they are extremely "skilful" at their "job" and I know very savvy, physically-strong male travellers that have been pickpocketed in places like Rome and Barcelona. When in Athens, I even sometimes leave the phone in the room. It is probably the only place in Europe where I would do it.
Thanks-- I appreciate the sentiment. I'm writing this off in my mind as my having been out of practice at travelling due to covid, and thus making some "amateur" mistakes in what we carried and how we carried them. Hopefully I'll have a less stressful trip next time!
