baggage restrictions flying into/out of Italy
Hello, I spent awhile looking at baggage restrictions but did not find this question. I am flying in a few days Executive Class SFO-LIS-FCO. On the TAP website it looks like I can carry on two hand baggage at 8 kilos each. My reservation also states this. But on the web site it states Italy has restrictions on cabin hand baggage, I quote " You can carry an item ( only one?) of personal baggage no larger than 40x30x15cm that must be placed under the seat in front of you. If you are carrying a piece of hand baggage up to 8kgs and 55x40x20cm, it will be carried in the hold at no extra cost. This baggage should be checked-in before you head for the boarding gate." The wording to me is confusing. The way I read this that only one bag can be carried on and has to be placed only under the seat???. A 40X30X15cm bag would have to be checked??? What about putting baggage in the overheads? On my return to USA through LIS I am staying over nite and catching the morning flight to USA. I am on one ticket and hoping I can just check my luggage through to LIS only. Also when leaving the USA and Italy I would love to avoid the check in counter and print my boarding pass from a kiosk or computer but with having to show Covid Immunization card and proof of covid test I imagine I will have to go to the check in counter where they tend to weigh all bags. I wont be overweight anyway. I just dont want to arrive in LIS and have to check bags for Italy. Too much lost luggage over the years. I either have to take only 7 kilos to be safe but would rather take 2 bags on board LIS to FCO and have a 14 kilo limit. . I tried calling tap air in portugal and usa but of course after 30 min. no answer .Any info is appreciated
EDIT: Found my answer on several web sites! Italy had an airline rule for one month in July, 2020 banning the use of over head bins due to covid??!!. The rule was gone a month later. TAP needs to remove that Italian baggage warning from their site. very confusing
