I'd say price and distance are big factors in that decision. Pre Covid, I saw many Ontario license plates in DTW car lots when parking. Not to mention there was a regular shuttle service running YYZ-London-Windsor-DTW.
I mean, I think you just proved my point. Many Canadians are so eager for an alternative to Air Canada that they will actually drive several hours out of their way to reach a US airline.
As I said above: If a US airline made a real effort to serve Canadian airports fully, I think Canadians would embrace that
