I think Canadians are more likely to fly a Canadian airline just cause they have a dramatically larger selection of destinations and much higher frequencies. If a US airline actually made a real effort, I see no reason why Canadians (and I'm one of them btw) wouldn't embrace that.
I'd say price and distance are big factors in that decision. Pre Covid, I saw many Ontario license plates in DTW car lots when parking. Not to mention there was a regular shuttle service running YYZ-London-Windsor-DTW.
